[ About Contemporary Research ]

Contemporary Research (CR) of Dallas, Texas designs and manufactures AV control products and software for integrated systems solutions. Our iC technology networks over the same RF coax as the CATV channels, eliminating the need to run additional control wiring. Through the iC network, computers and control systems can take control of up to 4,000 TVs, video displays and projectors. In addition, the iC network can communicate over Cat5 wiring, fiber optics and Ethernet networks.

CR distributed media solutions are at work at commercial, educational, government, and entertainment sites across the globe, including Ohio State University, Florida State University, Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, First Union Center Arena in Philadelphia, The Seattle Mariners, US Tennis Center, NYC, and The Creative Arts Agency, California as well as a number of educational media retrieval systems.

CR products are marketed to meet the needs of four applications:

  • The innovative SignStream system employs a single server to distribute digital signage content and control to HDTV-equipped displays. The SignStream server converts ATSC 1080i transport stream files as an HDTV channel for HD displays and NTSC channels for analog TVs. Onboard SignStream Web browser-based software creates and runs playlists and sends control commands over the same RF coax as the TV channels. Low-cost iC-Net controllers can integrate IR, RS-232, and Smart-format displays and TVs.
  • iC-Net technology creates new opportunities for integrated, facility-wide media applications by extending control over RF cable and other networks, delivering intelligent integration of Smart TVs, IR-controlled TVs and projectors, and RS-232 controlled large-screen displays, and providing Windows software for enhanced control, scheduling, and system management.
  • AV Products include RS-232 controlled stereo and mono TV tuners with composite and S-Video outputs, stereo FM tuners and A/V switchers.
  • FeatherTouch integration solutions include compact custom panels, media distribution units and interfaces for aircraft, yacht, and other high-end custom media applications.

Founded by Scott Hetzler in 1994, CR began with a vision for creating solutions that easily integrate with leading control systems such as AMX, Crestron, and other control systems. And no wonder - Scott was the leading designer for award-winning AMX control products such as the SX system, Axcess CardFrame, Axcent2, and EL touch panels.

Today's CR remains tightly focused on creating solutions for systems integrators, supporting sales and systems with a core team of well-known control industry experts, including, Jim Avetta, Doug Engstrom, Scott Hetzler, and Carl Terrier.
